Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Marks 25 New State Products for GI Tag to Boost Agriculture and Horticulture

Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that 25 new state products have been marked for Geographical Indication (GI) tags. The announcement came during a review meeting at the Secretariat on government schemes related to agriculture, animal husbandry, tourism, and industry. The CM emphasized connecting people with employment and self-employment opportunities through the state’s ambitious programs.

Dhami directed officials to upload the minutes of high-level meetings on the Unnati portal. Reviewing the apples horticulture scheme, he stressed that targets should be met on time, farmers encouraged, and dues cleared promptly. He also urged measures to promote kiwi cultivation to ensure farmers get better prices for their produce.

Highlighting Uttarakhand’s potential in honey production, the CM called for more focused efforts under the Honey Mission, including organic certification and learning from successful practices in other states. Out of the state’s 29 GI-tagged products, 18 relate to agriculture and allied sectors.

Under the state’s coarse cereals policy, Manduwa, Jhangora, Ramdana, Kauni, and China have been included with a budget of Rs 134 crore. The program covers 24 blocks (30,000 hectares) in the first phase and 44 blocks (40,000 hectares) in the second. So far, 5,386 MT of coarse cereals have been procured against a target of 5,000 MT this financial year.

The Pushkar Singh Dhami also set a target to benefit 9,000 people under the Mukhyamantri Swarozgar Yojana 1.0 and 2.0 in the coming year. Cabinet Ministers Satpal Maharaj, Ganesh Joshi, Principal Secretary Dr. R. Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary Nitesh Jha, and other senior officials were present at the meeting.

The 25 products marked for GI tag include Uttarakhand hill potato, lemon, Kausani tea, Nainital honey, Almora Singodi sweets, Kafal, and Harshil rajma.
