Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami promotes women’s empowerment with 30% reservation and launches Sansad Khel Mahotsav to boost sports culture.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami declared that his government is fully committed to empowering and promoting the welfare of women in the state, with a particular emphasis on boosting their involvement in all spheres of life.
According to CM Dhami, one of the state government’s key priority continues to be the advancement of women. He emphasized that efforts have been taken to guarantee that women participate more in employment, business, health, and education. “In this direction, we have implemented a 30 per cent reservation for women in government services in the state,” added the governor.
CM Dhami added that the government is strengthening livelihood options, especially in rural regions, in an effort to make women self-sufficient. He claimed that efforts to encourage women’s economic independence are being aggressively carried out under the Uttarakhand State Rural Livelihood Mission. Reiterating that women’s social and economic empowerment is essential to the state’s overall growth, the chief minister promised sustained assistance through targeted policies and welfare programs.

Fostering a Culture of Sports in Uttarakhand
The Uttarakhand Chief Minister had earlier opened the “Sansad Khel Mahotsav” at Almora’s Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Stadium. In order to further the Fit India, Fit Uttarakhand goal, the sports festival was introduced on Monday.
A new sports culture has emerged in the state under CM Dhami’s direction, according to a state government statement. Under the new sports strategy, athletes’ skill is acknowledged and fostered throughout Uttarakhand, and sports infrastructure is being created on a large scale.
National Advocacy for Community-Based Sports
Sansad Khel Mahotsav 2025-26 was inaugurated at the Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency earlier on December 21 by Union Minister of State for External Affairs & Textiles, Pabitra Margherita. This event gave the national initiative to build grassroots sporting culture more impetus.

By planning a variety of athletic events across constituencies across the country, the Sansad Khel Mahotsav seeks to promote community involvement, cultivate sportsmanship, and spot up-and-coming local talent.
A half-marathon with two divisions—one for men and one for women—was planned as part of Majuli’s debut program. An estimated 1,000 runners of all ages and in three distance categories participated enthusiastically in the event.
Both male and female runners received prize money, with the winner receiving Rs 50,000, the first runner-up receiving Rs 15,000, the second runner-up receiving Rs 7,000, the third runner-up receiving Rs 5,000, and the fourth runner-up receiving Rs 3,000. This recognition of the participants’ commitment and athletic spirit was given out. In addition to developing community spirit and supporting local athletic talent throughout the region, the Sansad Khel Mahotsav’s launch in Jorhat underscores the dedication to advancing sporting culture, fitness, and youth empowerment.
