Uttarakhand CM promotes Malta, kiwi, apple & other fruits at festival, connecting farmers to markets and enhancing rural economy.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the two-day Malta Festival, which was organized by the Seva Sankalp (Dharini) Foundation at the ITBP Stadium in Seema Dwar.
During the event, the Chief Minister met with farmers from several regions in the state and tried Malta and lemon-based products on display at the festival.
Addressing the event on Wednesday, CM Dhami stated that Uttarakhand has enormous potential for Malta production, particularly in its hilly regions. He revealed that the state government has taken a concrete step toward this goal by establishing a dedicated Malta Mission to encourage fruit production, marketing, and value addition.
The Chief Minister stated that the mission’s goal is to increase farmer income and give Uttarakhand’s fruits a distinct national identity. He stated that, like Malta, the state government promotes the development of kiwi, apple, peach, plum, lemon, and other local fruit species.
CM Dhami underlined the importance of events like the Malta Festival in connecting farmers directly with consumers and markets, so improving the rural economy and promoting local food.
Earlier, on Tuesday, the Chief Minister attended a function commemorating the Bureau of Indian Standards’ (BIS) 79th Foundation Day at the Chief Sevak Sadan, located within the Chief Minister’s Camp Office.

The Chief Minister stated that during the last eight decades, BIS has made significant contributions to quality, dependability, and consumer protection, truly embracing the phrase “Quality is Identity.”
He stated that the trip began in 1947 as the Indian Standards Institution and has since formed a solid foundation for the country’s industrial, technological, and economic advancement. According to a release, BIS has not only helped companies to compete globally, but has also increased customer trust and safety through standardisation, certification, and quality testing.
The Chief Minister stated that the scope of standardization has expanded beyond industry to encompass agriculture, healthcare, road safety, electricity, water conservation, disaster management, and digital services. He stated that the BIS plays an important role in creating the future by establishing timely standards in developing industries such as digital security, medical gadgets, drones, electric vehicles, recyclable materials, and green energy.
He also stated that BIS is making praiseworthy efforts to achieve a balance between nature and economy in accordance with the principles of sustainable development. In Uttarakhand, BIS is collaborating with several departments, including the Public Works Department, the Disaster Management Department, MDDA, and UPCL, to raise awareness and collaboration on standards.
The Chief Minister stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, programs such as Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India have become pillars of India’s economic and technological development. The Prime Minister’s ambition is to guarantee that Indian products set worldwide quality standards, and the BIS plays an important role in accomplishing this goal.
He added that the state government is aiming to develop high-quality standards for local products such as handicrafts, organic agricultural produce, medicinal plants, and traditional foods. The “House of Himalayas” brand has been developed to provide global prominence for the state’s traditional products.
