Yogi Adityanath Unveils Major Sports Infrastructure Plan in Gorakhpur

CM Yogi launches major sports infrastructure projects in Gorakhpur and across UP

UP CM Yogi Adityanath announces sports colleges, playgrounds, mini and large stadiums; MLA Sports Competition 2025 concludes with awards.

Gorakhpur: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reiterated his unwavering dedication to the advancement of sports and athletes by announcing that the government will proceed with the establishment of sports colleges at each divisional headquarters, as well as the construction of playgrounds in each gram panchayat, block-level mini stadiums, and district-level large stadiums.

On Monday, Chief Minister Yogi spoke at the Gorakhpur City Assembly constituency’s MLA Sports Competition 2025 award delivery ceremony. The Chief Minister stated that the government is always improving sports facilities while speaking at the ceremony at Veer Bahadur Singh Sports College. While Gorakhpur’s regional stadium is getting renovations at a cost of Rs 63 crore, an international stadium is soon to be built at Beliapar.

Veer Bahadur Singh Sports College is also developing a cutting-edge stadium. World-class construction work is moving quickly at the sports university named after hockey star Major Dhyan Chand in Meerut, where the academic year has already begun. According to him, the government is currently getting ready to set up sports colleges at each divisional headquarters.

The Chief Minister added that he will meet with all Gorakhpur city institutions shortly. Institutions will be urged to embrace at least one sport each during the meeting.

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister, also discussed his future goals for the MLA Sports Competition. According to him, sporting events will be held at the ward level for working professionals and retirees in addition to youngsters and students in the upcoming edition. Ward-level competitions will be followed by suburban-level events that combine many wards, and finally, large-scale city-level tournaments with lavish ceremonies where the winners will be honored.

Basic education, secondary school, and higher education would all be covered in the three levels of competitions for kids and students that will be held, he said.

The Chief Minister added that comparable plans had been made for Gorakhpur’s cultural events. The first week of January will see competitions in a variety of artistic disciplines, including dance, theater, singing, and instrumental music. The Gorakhpur Mahotsav’s main festivities, which take place from January 11 to 13, will honor the winners.

Chief Minister Yogi explained the value of sports by saying that when young people participate, the country thrives. This is where the path to achieving the goal of a developed India starts.

He stressed that only a healthy body, which can be attained through yoga and athletics, can lead to success in life.

According to the Chief Minister, sports and athletic events nationwide have undergone a dramatic change in the last eleven years. In sports like badminton, hockey, kabaddi, and athletics, the world now looks to India.

Events such as the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and World Championships have seen a rise in competition. The government is constantly improving sporting facilities in light of this.

Chief Minister Yogi commended the players’ zeal in spite of the extreme cold. According to him, the MLA Sports Competition involved approximately 10,000 players indirectly and about 1,000 players directly.

The 2025 edition included wrestling, volleyball, judo, kabaddi, and athletics competitions. He went on to say that sports are important for maintaining people’s physical, mental, and intellectual fitness in addition to offering pleasure in both positive and negative circumstances.

During the event, Fisheries Minister Dr. Sanjay Nishad stated that, similar to other industries, athletes are being given equal possibilities to advance without prejudice under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s direction.

He claimed that by eradicating the mafia mentality in Uttar Pradesh, the government had created a genuine sporting environment in its stead, replacing the culture of illicit weaponry. The Yogi government is fully committed to fostering the growth of sports and the development of athletes, Dr. Nishad stressed.

“Under the capable leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, historic work has been carried out to expand sports infrastructure and nurture sporting talent in the state,” stated Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Girish Chandra Yadav. Numerous programs to support athletes and sports are developing quickly.

Construction of tiny stadiums at the block level and playgrounds in each gram panchayat is proceeding quickly under the Chief Minister’s direction.

Member of Parliament Ravi Kishan Shukla welcomed the Chief Minister at the event and stated that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is giving kids from rural areas great resources to help them advance in sports.

According to him, CM Yogi is bringing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Khelega India toh Badhega India” vision to life.

Under his direction, Gorakhpur is developing an international stadium, and the double engine government is making sure athletes have all the facilities they need.

BJP District President Janardan Tiwari, Metropolitan Coordinator Rajesh Gupta, State Vice President of the Wrestling Association Aditya Singh Aagu, District Wrestling Association President Dinesh Singh, MLAs Fateh Bahadur Singh, Shriram Chauhan, Rajesh Tripathi, Vipin Singh, Pradeep Shukla, MLC Dhruv Tripathi, Vice Chairperson of the State Women’s Commission Charu Chaudhary, Sports Director Dr. RP Singh, and several other dignitaries were present at the event.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath witnessed the final wrestling and kabaddi contests in the 74 kg weight class during the MLA Sports Competition concluding ceremony. He cheered to support the players while paying close attention to their movements and strategies. The Chief Minister presented medals, trophies, and gifts to the players of the senior kabaddi winning team Regional Sports Stadium, the runner-up team Neena Thapa, and the winner of the senior wrestling competition, Shubham Yadav and Anurag Yadav, during the award ceremony.
