UP government to start drone surveys in cities under Digital Land Records programme to create accurate, fraud-proof digital maps for urban areas.
The Uttar Pradesh government plans to start drone surveying metropolitan areas next year in order to create an accurate and digitized land record system. The Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme (DILRMP) of the central Department of Land Resources includes this program. Now that land surveys in rural areas have been completed, attention is turning to producing precise digital maps for the state’s cities.
Project Pilot: Anup Shahar In Anup Shahar, a pilot survey has been in progress since February 18. With a population of about 46,000 and 10,000 homes, the area was chosen because it was manageable in size.
Present Situation: The drone survey component is almost complete, and the data is being physically verified.
The survey will be expanded to additional urban local bodies as part of a thorough work plan that will be developed after this pilot is finished.
The survey’s scope and advantages
The goal of the survey is to create a system for managing land information. These new digital maps will assist prevent fraud in real estate transactions and explain land ownership rights, in contrast to earlier maps that were mainly created for tax purposes.

The survey will produce information on:
- Land Use: markets, residential areas, green spaces, and industrial zones.
- Infrastructure includes railroad tracks and roads.
- The water bodies are rivers and ponds.
Digital maps of revenue records and residential colonies will be produced using this data. The project uses geo-referencing, which ensures great accuracy by connecting digital maps or photographs to actual geographical coordinates.
Initial Stage of Execution
The Revenue Department has designated particular urban entities for the initial rollout phase. They consist of:
- Tanda
- Nawabganj
- Dham Chitrakoot
- The Gorakhpur
- Hardoi
- Jhansi
- Chunar
- Punanpur
- Tilhar

In an effort to promote efficiency, the government has offered the first urban bodies to successfully finish the survey a prize of Rs 10 crore.
