Eastern Uttar Pradesh is set to witness a major milestone in veterinary education with the completion of its first Eastern Uttar Pradesh Veterinary College by the end of June 2026. The college, being built on the Gorakhpur-Varanasi highway in Tal Nador, will not only offer degree and diploma programs in veterinary science but also provide advanced treatment facilities for animals.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath laid the foundation stone and performed the Bhoomi Pujan of the Eastern Uttar Pradesh Veterinary College on 3 March 2024, with construction commencing in September 2024. The project aims to greatly benefit cattle rearers across eastern Uttar Pradesh, western Bihar, and neighboring regions of Nepal.

Three-Phase Development with State-of-the-Art Facilities

The college is being developed in three phases over an 80-acre campus, with the first phase costing Rs 277 crore. According to Manish Kumar, Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department, 65% of the first phase has been completed, including the construction of key academic and residential buildings. The Eastern Uttar Pradesh Veterinary College will feature:

  • Academic Block (G+5 floors)
  • Hospital Block for animal care and treatment
  • Male and Female Hostels (106 capacity each)
  • Postgraduate Hostels for male and female students (60 capacity each)
  • Research study centers for various disciplines in veterinary science
  • Auditoriums, guest houses, community centers, feed storage, and Kisan Bhawan

The campus will follow the “Net Zero Energy” concept with a solar power plant to support sustainable operations. Initially, the college will admit 100 students at the undergraduate level.

CM Yogi Adityanath’s Vision for the College

During the Bhoomi Pujan, CM Yogi Adityanath highlighted that the Eastern Uttar Pradesh Veterinary College will eventually be upgraded into a full-fledged university. He stated, “Along with the treatment of animals, the college will focus on breed improvement and fisheries programs. This initiative will provide young veterinary doctors a new platform to build their careers and contribute to livestock development in the region.”

The college design is inspired by the teachings of King Shalihotra of Shravasti, widely regarded in Indian tradition as the father of veterinary science. His third-century text, Shalihotra Samhita, emphasized livestock enrichment, a principle reflected in the vision for the Eastern Uttar Pradesh Veterinary College.

A Hub for Research, Education, and Animal Welfare

With cutting-edge infrastructure, research centers, and modern animal hospitals, the Eastern Uttar Pradesh Veterinary College aims to become a regional hub for veterinary science. The initiative aligns with the government’s broader goals of enhancing livestock management, advancing veterinary research, and providing practical education for future veterinary professionals.

The college is poised to transform veterinary education in eastern Uttar Pradesh, ensuring that students, farmers, and the local animal population all benefit from this landmark project.
