Patiala, Punjab – In a historic initiative to honour the rich spiritual legacy of Sikhism, the Punjab Government has announced that a significant 13.15-kilometer road stretch in Patiala district will be named after Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji. The announcement was made by Punjab Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian during proceedings in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha while replying to MLA Gurlal Singh Ghanaur.
Road Stretch to Commemorate the Ninth Guru
The designated road connects Rajpura to Sehra, further extending to Akkar village, where the historic Gurudwara Nimm Sahib is located. Minister Khudian emphasised that naming this thoroughfare after Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji reflects the government’s commitment to preserving the memory and teachings of the ninth Sikh Guru, renowned for his sacrifice in protecting dharam, humanity, and freedom of faith.

“The formal naming of the road will be executed immediately upon receipt of official resolutions from the concerned Gram Panchayats, followed by the recommendation from the Deputy Commissioner, Patiala,” Khudian stated.

Minister Khudian highlighted that Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji’s selfless dedication and supreme sacrifice continue to inspire generations across Punjab and beyond. The Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government aims to celebrate this spiritual heritage through initiatives that commemorate Sikh history while integrating it into the state’s cultural and civic infrastructure.
“This road naming initiative is a step towards paying tribute to the unparalleled contributions of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, whose life stands as a beacon of courage, devotion, and protection of religious freedom,” Khudian added.
The government has also assured that all administrative procedures and notifications for the formal naming will be completed promptly, ensuring the road bears the revered name in honour of the Sikh Guru’s enduring legacy.
