Fazilka reels under floodwaters
The recent floods in Punjab’s Fazilka district have left residents facing unprecedented hardship. Continuous rainfall and overflowing water submerged 12 villages and 20 panchayats, destroying standing crops and damaging homes, schools, and roads. Rural communities struggled with rising waters, but swift government action provided much-needed relief.
Acting on the Chief Minister’s directions, the Punjab government mobilized emergency services. Social organizations also joined hands with the administration to deliver food, medicines, and essential supplies. Together, they ensured timely support for families in crisis.
Minister Sond leads on-ground relief
Punjab Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond personally visited the flood-affected regions of Fazilka. He interacted with villagers, distributed relief packets, and reassured residents of continued government support. Food, medicines, and essential goods were provided to families stranded by waterlogging.
Local MLA Narinder Pal Singh also played a key role, guiding the administration and inspecting relief work. His presence on the ground motivated officials and ensured quick response measures. With both leaders monitoring operations, thousands of people received timely aid.
Health services prioritized in relief camps
Floods often bring the danger of waterborne diseases. To tackle this, the district administration deployed eight 24/7 medical teams to affected villages. An additional 26 teams were stationed in relief camps, ensuring that no family was left without healthcare support.
Doctors distributed medicines, treated injuries, and provided preventive care. Their efforts saved lives in critical cases. Four people injured in a wall collapse were quickly hospitalized, while timely ambulance support saved a child who had slipped into floodwaters. In another case, locals prevented a tragedy by rescuing an electrocution victim.
Despite the crisis, life continued with moments of hope. Four women delivered babies safely in the flood-hit areas. One new mother remains at the Slemepur relief camp, where both she and her newborn are safe under medical supervision.
Food and supplies reach 3,800 families
Delivering aid was a major challenge due to damaged roads and high water levels. However, the administration succeeded in distributing relief to nearly 3,800 families in a single round. This ensured that people received meals and essentials even in the worst-hit pockets of Fazilka.
Minister Sond personally supervised relief convoys and encouraged local youth to assist in operations. Their involvement not only sped up delivery but also built community solidarity during the crisis.
Joint efforts bring hope for recovery
The Fazilka floods have tested both the administration and the people. Yet, the combined efforts of the Punjab government, social organizations, and local volunteers highlight how unity can overcome disaster.
