Punjab’s ‘Instagram Queen’ Cop Amandeep Kaur Arrested in Disproportionate Assets Case

From Viral Reels to Jail Cell: Amandeep Kaur’s Fall from Fame

Bathinda, Punjab – May 26, 2025: Former Punjab Police head constable Amandeep Kaur, once a viral social media figure dubbed the “Instagram Queen”, has been arrested in a case involving disproportionate assets. The arrest marks another chapter in the controversial ex-cop’s dramatic fall from grace, following her earlier detention in a narcotics case.

Kaur, also popularly known as the “Thar wali constable” due to her flashy SUV and social media reels, was taken into custody as investigators alleged that her lifestyle and assets far exceeded her known sources of income. The case is being pursued by Punjab’s vigilance department, which suspects that illicit gains funded her luxury-driven public persona.

NDPS Arrest and Dismissal from Service

Kaur’s troubles began in April 2025, when she was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Authorities caught her with 17.71 grams of heroin during a routine police check near the Badal flyover in Bathinda. The operation was conducted by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in collaboration with local law enforcement.

Her Thar SUV, which had become symbolic of her social media stardom, was impounded. Days later, she was dismissed from police service due to the gravity of the charges.

A Social Media Sensation Turned Symbol of Misconduct

Despite being a serving officer, Kaur frequently posted Instagram reels in police uniform, violating Punjab Police’s strict social media policy. The department prohibits personnel from creating or distributing content while in uniform, especially if it undermines the integrity of the force.

Kaur’s content often featured branded handbags, designer clothes, and even her Shih Tzu dog dressed in couture, set to popular Punjabi tracks. One particularly viral video showed her in uniform beside her Thar SUV with a controversial song playing in the background, mocking traditional police values.

“Four by four di shaukeen lagdi, bina picche vekhe Thar back layi.
Oh MK ke bag vich raund rakhdi, kuri agg de bhabhooke vaangu phire machdi.”

A Pattern of Disciplinary Breaches

Kaur’s 14-year tenure in the police force was riddled with frequent transfers, reportedly due to disciplinary issues and social media misuse. Sources within the police department revealed that repeated warnings about her online activities were ignored.

Her online fame, which once won her public admiration, is now forming a crucial part of the evidence in the investigation. Investigators are examining her digital footprint, lifestyle choices, and financial records to assess the scale of alleged corruption.

Investigation and Legal Proceedings Underway

The disproportionate assets case focuses on the accumulation of property, luxury items, and lifestyle expenses that significantly outweigh Kaur’s income as a constable. Officials are evaluating her bank records, vehicle ownership, and any undeclared assets. Legal experts suggest she could face charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years upon conviction.

The police are also probing whether her social media fame was used to influence or distract from illicit activities and if any accomplices were involved.

What’s Next?

As Kaur remains in custody, her arrest underscores growing concerns about corruption within law enforcement and the unregulated use of social media by government employees. Punjab Police have reiterated their stance on maintaining professional conduct and are expected to revise internal policies following the controversy.
