Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrests ASI Sarabjit Singh red-handed for accepting Rs 5000 bribe in bail case, further investigation underway.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Sarabjit Singh, who was working at Police Station City Phagwara, district Kapurthala, was caught red-handed by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state. Singh had accepted a bribe of Rs. 5,000 in exchange for helping to grant the complainant’s parents bail.

An official state VB spokesperson revealed this , stating that the aforementioned culprit has been taken into custody in response to a complaint made by a resident of the hamlet of Issarwal in the Jalandhar district.

According to him, the complainant’s parents were booked at Police Station City Phagwara, and the accused ASI summoned the complainant to the Phagwara court complex to assist with his parents’ investigation. The accused threatened to put the complainant’s parents in jail if they did not pay for the unlawful gratification that was demanded during this encounter. The complainant immediately and under coercion gave the accused a bribe of Rs. 2,000.

After the complainant and his parents went to the Police Station in City Phagwara and his parents became involved in the investigation, the accused ASI wanted an additional bribe of Rs. 10,000 to assist in granting the complainant’s parents bail. The plaintiff paid an additional Rs. 2,000 as a bribe because he was unable to pay the full amount, and he stated that he was instructed to pay the remaining sum later.

He also disclosed that the accused ASI had called the complainant once again in the vicinity of the Rawalpindi Police Station, collected a bribe of Rs. 2,000, and requested that he pay the remaining sum. even after the complainant’s parents were given regular bail. The remaining bribe sum was still demanded by the accused. In this manner, the accused had bribed the complainant in three installments of Rs. 6000.

The spokesperson went on to say that following an initial investigation into his allegation, the VB team set up a trap, leading to the accused’s arrest while collecting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant in front of two official witnesses. Regarding this, VB police station Jalandhar has filed a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act against the accused, and additional investigation is currently underway.
