Punjab : The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested a clerk, David, posted at the Regional Transport Office ( RTO Bathinda ) , for accepting a bribe of Rs. 2,700 during its ongoing anti-corruption drive in the state.
According to an official spokesperson, the arrest was made following a complaint by a resident of Kanhiya Nagar, Bathinda, who works as a daily wage employee in the office of agent Raja Mittal and handles work related to RTO Bathinda.

The accused clerk was responsible for verifying vehicle registration certificates (RCs) online at RTO Bathinda. However, he allegedly refused to verify the complainant’s files and demanded Rs. 300 per file for processing. The clerk initially accepted Rs. 2,100 as a bribe at Bathinda bus stand and demanded an additional Rs. 3,000 as illegal gratification. The complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, approached the Vigilance Bureau.
Following a preliminary enquiry, the VB laid a trap and caught the clerk red-handed accepting Rs. 2,700 in the presence of two official witnesses. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at the VB Police Station, Bathinda, and further investigation is underway.
