Punjab SC Commission asks Tarn Taran police and Pratap Singh Bajwa to report on misuse of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib images during by-election campaign.

During the Tarn Taran Assembly by-election campaign, the hallowed pictures of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib and Bhai Jeevan Singh (Bhai Jaita Ji) were misused, a significant concern for the Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes. Regarding this, the Commission has instructed Tarn Taran, the Senior Superintendent of Police, to appear on November 26, 2025, through the relevant police captain, and provide a factual report on the actions taken.

The Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes’ Chairman, Jasvir Singh Garhi, shared this information, saying that newspaper articles and social media posts brought the issue to the Commission’s attention. As a result, the Commission sent Shri Pratap Singh Bajwa a notification.

Regarding this instance, Chairman Garhi reported that Tarn Taran, the Returning Officer-cum-SDM, had already appeared before the Commission. Additionally, prominent Congress leader Shri Pratap Singh Bajwa received a notice for personal presence. Through his attorney, he requested a time slot to appear after November 17. In a letter of censure, the Election Commission acknowledged that the Congress party and its candidate had violated the Model Code of Conduct by using religious images in this way.
