Punjab officials ensure full security, CCTV live-streaming, and strict Model Code of Conduct for Tarn Taran bye-election on November 11, 2025.

District authorities and Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sibin C conducted a video conference to discuss the last stage of preparations for the November 11 Tarn Taran bye-election. SSP Dr. Ravjot Grewal, Returning Officer Gurmeet Singh, and Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Rahul attended the meeting.

During the discussion, the CEO directed officials to maintain a high level of alertness throughout the critical 72, 48, and 24 hours prior to voting and until the election process is finished. He gave rigorous instructions on how to handle complaints about the distribution of money, alcohol, or freebies to sway voters. Sibin C further underlined that no foreigners connected to political parties should stay in the constituency after the election campaign ends at 6 PM on November 9.

For real-time supervision, the CEO additionally mandated that polling stations be 100% live-streamed online. To guarantee a seamless and safe polling experience for both voters and election personnel, he directed officials to set up sufficient setups at polling booths, strong rooms, and the counting hall. According to the Election Commission’s instructions, any infractions of the Model Code of Conduct must be dealt with immediately, he continued.

In order to prevent the illicit flow of alcohol, money, drugs, or other forbidden commodities, Sibin C ordered police officials to keep a 24-hour watch using CCTV monitoring and patrolling teams at checkpoints.

The CEO was informed by the SSP and the Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer that all preparations for the bye-election had been finished and that the election would be held in strict adherence to the Commission’s policies.

There are 222 voting places in the seat, 60 of which are in urban areas and 162 of which are in rural regions, according to the District Election Officer. Of these, 100 polling places have been deemed insecure, and extra security will be implemented in accordance with the deployment plan that has been authorized by ECI observers. Nine model polling stations, three polling booths run by women, one booth for voters with disabilities, and one booth for young voters have also been set up. Every polling place has a CCTV camera and is broadcast live on the internet. The Central Armed Police Force will be deployed at every polling station.

The SSP said that a “dry day” has been declared from 6 PM on November 9 to 6 PM on November 11 in accordance with directives from the Election Commission. Teams from the police and excise departments have been sent in to maintain a close eye on any illicit movement of alcohol. 876 Punjab Police officers and 768 CAPF officers have been sent in to bolster security measures. The Central Armed Police Force will send 480 officers to each of the 114 polling places.

Along the Tarn Taran constituency’s borders, six interdistrict checkpoints have been established to deter criminal activity and keep an eye out for antisocial people. at addition, during the 72 hours leading up to the election, 22 patrolling parties will conduct thorough patrols at all voting places, paying particular attention to the most vulnerable and important regions in order to handle any emergency.

There are 1,92,838 voters in the Tarn Taran constituency, comprising 1,00,933 men, 91,897 women, and 8 voters of the third gender. There are 1,357 service voters overall, 1,657 voters over 85, 306 non-resident Indians, and 1,488 voters with disabilities. There are 3,333 young voters in the constituency who are between the ages of 18 and 19.

Senior representatives from the CEO office and the Tarn Taran district administration, including Joint CEO Sakatar Singh Bal and Additional CEO Amandeep Bansal, also attended the review meeting.
