Chandigarh: Punjab has emerged as one of the country’s better-performing states in maternal and child healthcare, with key health indicators showing results that surpass the national average. The achievements were highlighted by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab unit, which credited the progress to the state government’s sustained efforts to strengthen healthcare services.
According to the information shared, Punjab’s maternal mortality rate stands at 77, significantly lower than the national average of 87. The state has also recorded a better infant mortality rate, with 16 deaths per 1,000 live births compared to the national average of 24.
Punjab Maternal and Child Health Indicators Show Improvement
The latest figures indicate that Punjab has made notable progress in improving Punjab Maternal and Child Health outcomes. The state has strengthened healthcare delivery systems focused on mothers and children, contributing to better survival rates and improved access to medical care.
Data from the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) shows that Punjab has improved its ranking in maternal mortality by 10 positions. The state has also performed better than the national average in infant mortality rate, neonatal mortality rate, and under-five child mortality rate.
Focus on Better Healthcare Services
The state government has attributed these achievements to continuous efforts aimed at enhancing healthcare facilities and expanding access to essential medical services. Initiatives such as safer deliveries, timely vaccination programmes, improved maternal healthcare, and better treatment facilities in government hospitals have played an important role in achieving these outcomes.

Officials believe that continued investment in healthcare services, awareness campaigns, immunization drives, and institutional deliveries will help Punjab maintain its positive momentum and further improve health outcomes in the coming years.
The government reiterated that strengthening Punjab Maternal and Child Health remains a crucial part of its broader vision of creating a healthier and more prosperous “Rangla Punjab.”
