Punjab Govt releases ₹209 crore flood relief before Diwali; first installment distributed in Sangrur under Mission Rehabilitation.
The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has kept its pledge to help flood victims before Diwali (within 30 days) by giving the state the first flood relief installment of ₹209 crore.
This money will be given to flood victims in the Sangrur district, where ₹3.50 crore will be given. Today, Harpal Singh Cheema, Punjab’s Minister of Finance and Planning, started giving out compensation by giving eight households in the Dhuri constituency letters of approval.
He stated that 13 Cabinet Ministers from all over Punjab are visiting areas that were hit by floods today to provide out aid as part of Mission Rehabilitation.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann started Mission Rehabilitation in Ajnala by giving 631 farmers checks worth ₹5.70 crore. He said that farmers have never been paid ₹20,000 per acre as compensation before. The Punjab Government is there for its citizens in good times and bad.

He said that heavy rains and floods hurt a lot of crops all around the state. A lot of people’s houses and other buildings fell down.
After looking at how much each affected family lost, they will get help. This time, each damaged house will get ₹40,000 instead of the previous value of ₹4,000. Farmers will get ₹20,000 for each acre of crops that are damaged.
He remarked that Punjabis and Punjab have always helped people who have been hurt by natural disasters. But the Central Government treats Punjab and Punjabis unfairly in every area. He wanted the Central Government to release the ₹1600 crore that Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised during his visit to Punjab as soon as possible.
He made it clear that the ₹240 crore that the Center gave out is part of the yearly payment.
Cheema said that the Punjab government, with the help of the people, fought the floods with all their might.
If rescue and relief operations hadn’t started right away, the damage might have been far worse. He praised the Sangrur district government, saying that a breach in the Ghaggar River usually happens at 747 feet of water, but this time they were able to handle it even when the water level was 755 feet.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Rahul Chaba talked about the work that had been done to help people in Sangrur district deal with the floods and thanked the Punjab Government for sending the money.
He stated that, as per the Punjab Government’s orders, plans were developed in advance to handle the emergency. Even though it rained a lot, the 41-kilometer stretch of the Ghaggar River that goes through Sangrur district did not break.
Jasvir Singh Sekhon, a member of the Punjab State Food Commission, Amit Bamby, the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Rishabh Bansal, the SDM, Rajwant Singh Ghuli, the Dhuri Market Committee Chairman, Anwar Bhasaur, Soni Mander, and a lot of other people were there.
