Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday highlighted several Punjab Government schemes while interacting with citizens during a Lok Milni programme in Jalandhar. The Chief Minister said the government has fulfilled its promises and remains committed to ensuring development, welfare and prosperity across Punjab.
Addressing residents, Mann said that these public interactions are helping the administration directly understand and resolve citizens’ problems. Senior officials from the police and civil administration were present at the event to ensure that complaints raised by the public are addressed immediately.
Lok Milni Strengthening Governance
The Chief Minister said that Lok Milni is an innovative step aimed at bringing the government closer to the people. According to him, the initiative ensures that issues raised by citizens are resolved quickly without unnecessary delays.
He directed Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police to ensure that grievances raised during these meetings are acted upon promptly. Mann also said he will personally review the status of complaints in periodic meetings to make sure the initiative delivers results.
Key Punjab Government Schemes for Women and Families
Among the major Punjab Government schemes, Mann highlighted the Mukh Mantri Mawan Dhian Satkar scheme, which provides monthly financial assistance of ₹1000 to ₹1500 to women in the state. The scheme aims to support economically weaker families and recognize the contribution of mothers and daughters in society.
Another important initiative is the Meri Rasoi Yojna, under which around 40 lakh families will receive free food kits every month along with wheat already provided under the National Food Security Act.
Each food kit will include:
- 2 kg lentils
- 2 kg sugar
- 1 kg salt
- 200 grams turmeric powder
- 1 litre mustard oil
The Chief Minister said these Punjab Government schemes are designed to strengthen food security and ensure that no family struggles to arrange daily meals.
Employment and Youth Development
Mann also spoke about employment generation as part of the government’s broader development strategy. He said that more than 63,000 government jobs have been provided to young people in a transparent manner.

Improvements in Irrigation and Infrastructure
The Chief Minister also highlighted progress in irrigation infrastructure. When the government took office, only 21% of irrigation relied on canal water, but the figure has now increased to 68%, with a target of reaching 85% by the upcoming paddy season.

To achieve this, the state has revived 18,349 watercourses covering nearly 6,900 kilometres and invested around ₹6500 crore in rejuvenating the canal system. For the first time, 1,365 villages have started receiving canal water.
Rural infrastructure has also been strengthened with the construction of over 49,000 kilometres of village roads at a cost of ₹16,209 crore as part of ongoing Punjab Government schemes for rural development.
Education and Healthcare Reforms
Highlighting education reforms, Mann said that the government has established Schools of Eminence with smart classrooms, advanced laboratories and modern teaching facilities.
Teachers and principals are being sent abroad for training so that they can adopt modern teaching techniques and improve learning outcomes. Punjab has also secured the top position in the National Achievement Survey, surpassing Kerala.
In the healthcare sector, the government launched the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, which provides cashless medical treatment up to ₹10 lakh for 65 lakh families across the state. The scheme removes income restrictions and includes government employees and pensioners.
The state currently operates 881 Aam Aadmi Clinics, providing free treatment and medicines to citizens.
Power Supply and Road Safety Initiatives
The Chief Minister said that nearly 90% of households in Punjab are receiving free electricity. Farmers have also benefited from improved power supply, receiving more than eight hours of uninterrupted electricity for tube wells during the paddy season.
He also highlighted the launch of the Sadak Surakhiya Force, which includes 1,597 trained personnel and 144 modern vehicles deployed across 4,200 kilometres of highways to improve road safety.
Government Focused on Development
Concluding the event, Mann said the administration has closed 19 toll plazas, saving people around ₹64 lakh daily in toll charges. He reiterated that the government’s focus remains on implementing impactful Punjab Government schemes that improve the lives of citizens.
According to the Chief Minister, the state is moving steadily toward development and prosperity through people-centric policies and strong governance.
