CM Mann condemns attack on CJI, blames BJP’s anti-SC stance; AAP’s Rajinder Gupta files Rajya Sabha bypoll nomination for seat vacated by Sanjeev A

CM Mann condemned the attempt to throw a shoe at the Chief Justice of India , alleging that it was the outcome of the BJP’s anti-Schedule Caste (SC) tirade. Mann claimed that the BJP was persistently attempting to undermine the interests of individuals from underprivileged and marginalized communities through its vitriolic propaganda.

“The CJI has achieved this position through unwavering commitment and diligence.” An act of such heinousness is truly abhorrent. During an interaction with the media on the eve of the filing of nominations by AAP candidate and industrialist Rajinder Gupta for the Rajya Sabha bypoll, he stated, “This act is intended to undermine the judiciary!”

Mann responded to the opposition’s criticism of the government regarding the floods by asserting that the opposition was unnecessarily attributing the incident to the state government out of exasperation. “Floods are a natural natural disaster.” “This natural disaster, which has affected states such as Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, cannot be attributed to any individual,” he elaborated. He further stated that the assessment (girdawari) procedure was currently underway and that compensation cheques would be distributed in the near future.

On Friday, Rajinder Gupta, an industrialist and candidate for the Aam Aadmi Party, submitted his nomination papers for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha bypoll in the state. Gupta submitted his nomination documents to the secretary of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha in the presence of chief minister Bhagwant Mann, AAP state chief Aman Arora, cabinet minister Sanjeev Arora, and Lok Sabha member Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer. In order to address the casual vacancy in the Upper House that resulted from Sanjeev Arora’s resignation on July 1, a byelection is scheduled for October 24. Following his election to the state legislative assembly from the Ludhiana West constituency in a bypoll, Arora, who was elected to the Rajya Sabha in April 2022, resigned. His Rajya Sabha tenure was scheduled to conclude on April 9, 2028. If Gupta is successful, he will be required to fulfill the remaining portion of the term. Since 2022, Gupta has served as the vice-chairman of the state economic policy and planning board and as the chairperson of the Sri Kali Devi Temple Advisory Committee. He has lately tendered his resignation to these positions.
