India skipper Shubman Gill set a WTC record on Day 2 vs West Indies, scoring his 9th Test fifty and looking strong for a big knock.
New Delhi: Shubman Gill has been setting benchmarks for recreational purposes since he was appointed India’s Test captain. He scored a half-century in the inaugural Test against the West Indies and has since followed it up with another fifty in the ongoing second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. In the process, the Indian captain surpassed Rishabh Pant and Rohit Sharma to become the most prolific run-scorer for India in the history of the World Test Championship (WTC).
After remaining unbeaten at 20 at ends on Day 1, he required only 15 runs to establish the record on the second day. Despite being embroiled in a mix-up with Yashasvi Jaiswal that resulted in the latter being run out, Gill scored the necessary runs in style in the first session, which did not require much time.

Gill was able to dismiss the disappointment, as it was partially his fault that Jaiswal was run out, resulting in him missing out on his well-deserved third double ton by 25 runs. He is currently in a position to make a significant impact after missing out on the previous Test, in which he was dismissed on exactly 50 deliveries out of 100.
In the history of the World T20, Shubman Gill has scored 2757 runs (when batting on 60) at an average of 42.41 in 71 innings. He has also achieved nine centuries and as many fifties.

Rohit has achieved 2716 runs in WTC and has already retired from the format. Jadeja has been in exceptional form in recent years, amassing 2505 runs in 69 innings. Conversely, Jaiswal has amassed 2420 runs in just 48 innings of WTC, with an average of 52.6, including seven centuries and 12 half-centuries.
