Punjab CM Launches Air Educational Tours for Meritorious Govt School Students

CM Mann’s visionary step aims to broaden academic exposure and reward excellence in state-run schools

Chandigarh, May 27, 2025: In a landmark move to recognize academic excellence and expand educational horizons, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has announced that top-performing students from government schools across districts will be taken on educational tours via air to premier institutions in the country. This initiative, hailed as the first of its kind in the state, seeks to instill confidence, reward hard work, and foster aspiration among deserving students.

While interacting with meritorious students from all districts—except Ludhiana, whose event is pending—CM Mann emphasized that the objective is not only to reward achievement but also to inspire future goals through real-world exposure to elite academic environments.

“This is a moment of immense pride for the entire state. These young minds are the future of Punjab, and it’s our duty to provide them with opportunities that open up a world of possibilities,” said CM Mann.

A Confidence-Building Milestone for Students

The announcement came during a high-profile felicitation event in Chandigarh, where the Chief Minister personally interacted with district toppers, along with their teachers and parents. The event served as both a celebration and a confidence-building exercise.

  • Students were praised for their dedication and academic rigor.
  • Teachers and parents were recognized as key pillars in the success of the students.
  • Mann emphasized that these students have now become role models for their juniors.

He urged them to choose their own role models carefully and to motivate others through their achievements.

Bridging the Urban-Rural Educational Divide

CM Mann criticized previous administrations for neglecting government schools, pointing out that past leaders often sent their children to elite institutions while government schools were reduced to mid-day meal centers.

“We are reversing that legacy,” said Mann. “We are empowering our government school students with quality education and exposure—tools once denied to them.”

The air tour initiative is a part of a larger educational reform agenda that aims to provide equitable opportunities for students from all socio-economic backgrounds.

Key Features of the Air Educational Tour Scheme

The scheme will initially benefit the top-performing students from government schools across Punjab’s districts. Key highlights include:

  • All-expense-paid air travel to visit prestigious institutions like IITs, IIMs, and central universities.
  • Educational exposure through guided campus tours and interactions with academicians.
  • Cultural and motivational interactions to instill broader life perspectives.

A Vision for Transformational Education

CM Mann reaffirmed that education remains a top priority under his administration. The government has undertaken sweeping reforms, including:

  • Upgrading school infrastructure across Punjab
  • Deploying qualified teachers solely for teaching roles (not admin or polling duties)
  • Introducing digital learning tools and smart classrooms

He noted that such systemic changes will not only enhance learning outcomes but also restore public faith in government schools.

“Our youth have the talent. They just need a launchpad. This government is committed to being that platform,” Mann asserted.

Teachers, Students, and Parents React

The initiative has been welcomed by students and educators alike. Teachers expressed satisfaction at being recognized as change-makers, while students shared their excitement about seeing institutions they had only read about.

A student from Bathinda, who scored 96% in Class 12, said, “I never thought I’d fly on a plane to visit a university. This gives me the motivation to dream even bigger.”

Government’s Commitment to Youth Empowerment

CM Mann concluded with a call to the youth to remain grounded, work hard, and strive to become job creators instead of job seekers.

“Success must be rooted in humility. Work hard, stay focused, and the sky will be your limit,” he said.
