Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann criticizes SGPC chief Harjinder Dhami in Majitha, announces Talbir Gill as AAP candidate and launches ₹11.32 crore road projects.

Majitha, Punjab: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann sharply criticized Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, accusing him of becoming a “soldier of Sukhbir Singh Badal” rather than serving Sri Guru Sahiban, a stance he described as “deeply painful for the Panth.” At a public gathering in Majitha on Sunday, while laying the foundation stone for 23 rural link roads costing ₹11.32 crore, the Chief Minister told people that no attempt to drive Punjab back into beadbi (sacrilege) or goondagardi would succeed.

The Chief Minister emphasized that Majitha was previously dominated by fear under the Akali and Congress administrations, with fake cases and intimidation employed against regular individuals. “Previously, this area was under continual fear. With strong political connections, some unleashed a reign of terror, but the people’s will now prevails,” he stated. He recounted historical betrayals, such as the local hosting of General Dyer during the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919, and declared that Punjab would never forgive those who murdered innocent people.

CM Mann warned that restoring the Akali Dal to power will plunge the state into a dark era defined by sacrilege, shooting at protestors, and crimes against ordinary citizens. He stated the previous SGPC leadership’s transgressions had pushed the government to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to locate the 328 missing saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, while emphasizing that the government had no intention of interfering in religious institutions.

CM Mann criticized SGPC President Dhami, stating, “Instead of calling himself a soldier of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, he proudly calls himself a soldier of Sukhbir Singh Badal.” What good can come from assisting people who have devastated Punjab?” He also emphasized the sovereignty of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, justifying his decision to appear before the Takht rather than attend the President of India’s function, drawing a contrast between his government’s respect for religious authority and previous political intrusion.

In a big political decision, Chief Minister Mann announced that AAP leader Talbir Singh Gill will be the party’s candidate for Majitha in the 2027 Assembly elections, emphasizing development, accountability, and citizen involvement over intimidation and entitlement. “The people of Majitha will now choose representatives who prioritize decision-making and progress,” he informed them.

CM Mann highlighted his government’s pro-people actions, stating that since taking office in March 2022, 90% of homes now receive free electricity, farmers have uninterrupted power supply, and Punjab has developed a power surplus. He also mentioned welfare measures for border inhabitants, such as in-principle consent to move the border barrier closer to the international boundary, which would make cultivation easier for farmers.

The CM plans to spend ₹11.32 crore over five years to renovate and maintain link roads in Majitha villages. Punjab’s 43,000 km of link roads are being improved by AI surveys and a CM Flying Squad, saving ₹226.89 crore from previous administrations.

He finished by emphasizing that Punjab’s governance is now firmly focused on public welfare, noting initiatives such as Aam Aadmi Clinics, Schools of Eminence, and free electricity, guaranteeing that growth, dignity, and respect remain top objectives.
