Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal launch Punjab Transport Faceless Services, streamlining DL & RC applications via digital platforms and helpline 1076

Punjab CM  Bhagwant Mann and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national leader Arvind Kejriwal will launch the Punjab Transport Department’s Faceless Services Project on Wednesday. As part of the celebration, both leaders will symbolically lock the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) office’s single window enquiry counter, signaling the end of the former manual procedure, which frequently required repeated trips and lengthy wait times.

The district government has given the RTA office a facelift, with the entire structure freshly whitewashed and cleaned in preparation for the visit.

The state government’s reform provides 56 vital services linked to driver’s licenses (DL) and registration certificates (RC) in a fully faceless manner, allowing residents to obtain them through sewa kendras or by contacting the 1076 helpline. Officials said the move is intended to make the process more open, citizen-friendly, and efficient, while reducing corruption and unnecessary bureaucracy.

Previously, applicants for driver’s licenses or vehicle registrations had to visit RTO offices numerous times for verification and follow-ups, even after applying online. The lengthy process frequently caused inconvenience, particularly for senior folks, people with impairments, and residents of distant locations.

According to official data, the transport department handled over 29 lakh transactions in the fiscal year 2024-25, with 19.63 lakh linked to RCs and 9.6 lakh for DL services. The large volume highlighted the necessity for a streamlined digital infrastructure.

Citizens can complete applications digitally under the new model, while sewa kendras across Punjab will serve as one-stop help desks for online form submission, document scanning, and Aadhaar-based eKYC verification. Those who are unable to travel can dial 1076 to receive services at their door, which is projected to assist thousands across the state.

Officials stated that the reform represents the state government’s dedication to ease of living and openness in governance, ensuring that key services reach every resident without the use of middlemen or physical visits to transportation offices.
