AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang writes to VP C.P. Radhakrishnan seeking a meeting to discuss Panjab University autonomy and students’ concerns.

Malvinder Singh Kang, an AAP member of parliament, has written to Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan, the vice president of India and chancellor of Panjab University , asking for time for a meeting to undertake a thorough debate on preserving the university’s statutory independence.

MP Kang commended the Union Government’s decision to retract its notification dated 28 October 2025 regarding the reform of the University’s Senate and Syndicate. However, he noted that this governmental measure does not totally answer the issues voiced by students.

In his letter, he said that Panjab University, established in 1882, is an institution of national significance, and its autonomy is the cornerstone of its democratic structure and academic repute. Any changes must respect the federal framework of the Indian Constitution and the Panjab University Act of 1947.

MP Kang stated that he has an emotional connection to Panjab University and is aware of the goals and worries of its students, staff, and alumni, citing his personal experience as a former student leader and Senate member. He asked for an early meeting with the Vice-President to go over the University’s problems in depth and ask for his advice as Chancellor.

Kang expressed optimism that Panjab University will continue to advance as a bastion of excellence and inclusivity under the Vice-President’s direction.
