Chandigarh, Punjab: During a press conference today, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann shared key updates highlighting significant progress in Punjab rural development across multiple sectors. The government is investing ₹1,166 crore to construct 3,000 rural playgrounds, providing recreational and sports facilities to villages statewide.
In the second phase of development, 500 modern Panchayat houses have been built at a cost of ₹125 crore, ensuring better infrastructure and governance at the village level. Additionally, 231 out of 251 rural libraries have been completed, promoting education and literacy—another vital component of Punjab rural development.

Over the past four years, ₹5,146 crore has been spent under MGNREGA, and in 2025-26 alone, 63,357 new MGNREGA job cards were issued, providing employment opportunities and economic stability to rural communities. Furthermore, funds have been approved for housing 76,000 families, and 17,080 pond-cleaning projects have been initiated, improving sanitation and water management.
Punjab Rural Development Strengthened Through Historic Caste-Based Survey
For the first time in history, a caste-based economic survey is being conducted in Punjab, reflecting a comprehensive approach to planning and resource allocation. CM Mann emphasized that all these initiatives collectively strengthen Punjab rural development, improve living standards, and empower local communities.
