Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goel laid the foundation stone for the much-awaited Ghaggar River Dam Strengthening project, a major step to protect the region from potential floods. The first phase of this project will cost ₹6.46 crore and aims to reinforce the dam’s capacity to manage heavy rainfall and river flow.
The Mann government has planned an extensive Ghaggar River Dam Strengthening program across 42 kilometers of dams in the Lahira constituency. The total investment for this comprehensive project is estimated at ₹10.60 crore.

Minister Goel Emphasizes Importance of Ghaggar River Dam Strengthening for Public Safety
Speaking at the event, Minister Goel highlighted the critical role of the Ghaggar River Dam Strengthening initiative in ensuring public safety. “Strengthening these dams is essential for protecting communities from flood risks and securing livelihoods in the region,” he said.
The project will focus on repairing weak sections, reinforcing embankments, and employing modern flood-control techniques. Officials emphasized that the Ghaggar River Dam Strengthening program is part of the government’s larger commitment to disaster preparedness and sustainable infrastructure.
