Punjab Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur reviews SOSVA programs empowering 4,000+ women with skills for sustainable livelihoods and entrepreneurship.
As the Chief Guest at MGSIPA today, Punjab Social Security, Women Empowerment, and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur attended the review meeting of NGOs sponsored by the State Organization for Social Service & Voluntary Action (SOSVA).
The Minister expressed gratitude to SOSVA for successfully carrying out reproductive child health and women’s empowerment programs throughout the State. SOSVA, which the Punjab government has classified as a Mother NGO, has been in operation since 2002, she said, and has been carrying out programs like FSW and IDU projects in Phagwara, IDU projects in Chandigarh, and remedial coaching for weak pupils.
Dr. Baljit Kaur emphasized that SOSVA’s primary program currently focuses on women’s empowerment, offering impoverished and needy women instruction in computer applications, cutting and tailoring, and skin and hair care. Through 98 projects ru n by 65 NGOs, between 3,000 and 4,000 women in Punjab receive training annually.

According to the Minister, these programs demonstrate Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann’s unwavering dedication to uplifting women in Punjab by giving them chances for sustainable livelihoods and meaningful skill training. The Minister went on to say that the Punjab Government supports all non-governmental organizations that empower women and girls in the state by giving them skill development and assisting them in being self-sufficient.
Women from economically disadvantaged groups are really benefiting from these training programs, she said, as they are able to find work or launch home-based businesses. According to SOSVA’s comments, a lot of trained women are currently making between ₹15,000 and ₹25,000 a month, depending on their employment and skill level.She also valued the fact that many women have established their own modest businesses, such as boutiques, beauty parlors, and tailoring shops, turning them into independent individuals. The training modules are demanding, overseen by certified teachers, and followed by tests to guarantee skill proficiency, the Minister continued.
