CI Amritsar arrests one operative and seizes five pistols from a Pak-backed cross-border smuggling module, following DGP Gaurav Yadav’s detailed briefing.

DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav said that Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has made a significant breakthrough in the ongoing effort to make Punjab a safe and secure state in accordance with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s directives. They have arrested one operative and seized five sophisticated pistols from a Pak-backed cross-border arms smuggling module.

Sandeep Singh, a native of Tarn Taran’s Khalra village, has been identified as the individual who was arrested. Four.30 bore handguns and magazines, as well as one 9MM handgun and magazine, were among the weapons found. His Royal Enfield (Bullet) motorcycle, which was used to transport the items, has also been seized by police.

According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, preliminary investigation has shown that the accused, together with sought companion Saifli Singh, had been collecting weapons consignments at the behest of a handler in Pakistan and distributing them to gangsters and criminals in Punjab. He claimed that the latter has been dropping the illegal goods from the other side of the border using drones.

The DGP shared the specifics of the operation, stating that CI Amritsar had received precise intelligence regarding the recovery of a sizable shipment of illegal firearms from the Indo-Pak border region that had fallen close to the village of Khalra. When Sandeep Singh, the aforementioned suspect, was about to deliver the shipment to a third party, the CI-Amritsar police squad moved quickly to apprehend him from near Village Thatha in Tarn Taran. They also retrieved the illegal firearms from his hands, he claimed.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 72, dated 06-12-2025, has been filed at Police Station State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar, under sections 25 and 25(1)(a) of the Arms Act and section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
