Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann accuses BJP-led Centre of trying a backdoor entry into Punjab University and neglecting the state on flood relief funds.
According to a press release from his office, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann blasted the BJP-led NDA government at the federal level on Sunday for reportedly “desperately trying for a backdoor entry into Punjab University.”
The Chief Minister reaffirmed his refusal to permit such an endeavor.
Since its founding, Punjab University in Chandigarh has contributed to the “emotional, cultural, literary, and rich legacy of the state,” according to CM Mann.
The Punjab government will not permit any such action in the greater interest of students, according to Bhagwant Singh Mann, who said that frequent attempts are being made to alter the university’s status.
CM Mann further criticized the Centre, saying, “The BJP is hell-bent on ruining the state because they have an anti-Punjab syndrome.”
He went on to say that the state’s tableaux are not permitted to take part in Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations by the BJP. According to the press release, Bhagwant Singh Mann further claimed that the saffron party’s antagonistic stance toward Punjab is shown in the excessive meddling in BBMB, Punjab University, and other state affairs.

Additionally, he attacked the Center for supposedly treating the state like a stepmother, particularly in the wake of this year’s terrible floods.
According to the chief minister, the state has not yet received the Rs 1,600 crore that the prime minister had promised for flood relief. To make matters worse, the central government is attempting to reallocate the funds from other existing programs.
The Union government should halt this “maltreatment” of Punjab, “the food bowl and the sword arm of the country,” Bhagwant Singh Mann advised.
According to the Chief Minister, the state government is giving out two lakh quintals of seeds valued at Rs 74 crore to farmers in the state who incurred significant losses during the recent floods.
He went on to say that the distribution of these seeds to farmers in districts hit by flooding has already started and would soon be finished. The chief minister added that the state government has paid farmers the greatest amount of compensation ever granted by any state government in the nation—Rs 20,000 per acre—for crop losses.
Among those in attendance were Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian.
In the meantime, protests are still going on inside the institution, and police are using “lathichage” to scatter students who are demanding that senate elections be held. After conflicts between students and security officials, there is still a significant police presence on campus.
