CM Bhagwant Mann Drives Punjab Green Energy Initiatives Across the State

CM Bhagwant Mann expands Punjab green energy initiatives, boosting solar, hydro, and transmission capacity for a cleaner future.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab has made significant strides in renewable and clean energy, highlighting the government’s commitment to sustainability. The latest Punjab green energy initiatives reflect a focused push toward reducing dependence on coal and increasing renewable power generation.

Expanding Renewable Power Capacity

As part of the Punjab green energy initiatives, the state has signed agreements for 2,720 MW of electricity at rates ranging from ₹2.33 to ₹2.97 per unit. Additionally, 581 MW of rooftop solar panels have been installed, with plans to increase this capacity by 100 MW annually. The transmission capacity has also been enhanced by 2,738 MW, improving overall grid efficiency.

Moving Away From Coal Dependence

Punjab’s energy scenario has improved dramatically over the past four years. Previously, the state often faced coal shortages, limiting thermal plant operations to only a couple of days. Today, the Rupnagar Thermal Plant operates for 41 days, Lehra Muhabbat for 37 days, and Goindwal Sahib Plant for 32 days. The Shahpur Kandi Hydro Power Project is expected to be completed by May 2027, further supporting the Punjab green energy initiatives.

Green Energy Targets for the Future

The state aims to increase the share of green energy usage to 80% over the next six years. These ambitious targets form a key component of CM Bhagwant Mann’s vision for sustainable development. The Punjab green energy initiatives are designed to provide clean, affordable, and reliable power to residents while reducing the environmental impact of conventional energy sources.

Economic and Environmental Impact

The Punjab green energy initiatives not only focus on sustainability but also create employment opportunities in solar and renewable energy sectors. Agreements like those made by previous administrations at higher rates, such as ₹15.20 per unit, are being replaced with cost-effective, environmentally friendly solutions under the current government.

Moving Towards a Cleaner Future

CM Bhagwant Mann emphasized that these Punjab green energy initiatives are part of the state’s long-term strategy to modernize the power sector while promoting clean energy. With renewable power capacity rising and coal dependence decreasing, Punjab is steadily moving toward a cleaner and greener future.
