Expressing shock over Khaira’s comments, the minister stated that such remarks insult women and undermine the legacy of Punjab’s brave sons who were raised by courageous mothers from humble backgrounds. “Punjab’s brave sons have never been born only in wealthy homes. Many were raised by poor but strong mothers who sacrificed for their children and the state,” she said.

Dr. Baljit Kaur further criticized the Congress party for failing to respect welfare schemes for women, stressing that the Punjab Government women empowerment initiatives have always been people-centric, irrespective of political opposition. She cited examples such as free bus travel for women and other welfare measures that have consistently benefited women across the state.

The minister also referenced historical struggles, including the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, asserting that the opposition must reflect before making irresponsible statements that hurt women and the public. “The Punjab Government women empowerment schemes are pro-people, and any attack on them is an attack on women themselves,” she added.

Dr. Baljit Kaur warned that women across Punjab are strongly condemning Khaira’s remarks and urged the Congress party to clarify its position and issue a public apology. She reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to advancing Punjab Government women empowerment, ensuring that women’s voices are heard and respected.
