Ludhiana, March 17, 2025 : In a powerful statement during his visit to Ludhiana, Arvind Kejriwal, National Convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), revealed a series of transformative measures aimed at reviving the industrial sector, combating corruption, and addressing the rampant drug menace plaguing Punjab. Kejriwal, along with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, laid out a bold roadmap to ensure the state’s progress, highlighting economic reforms, anti-corruption policies, and infrastructural revamps that will shape the future of Punjab.
In his address to industrialists at a Sanatkaar Milni event, Kejriwal emphasized the government’s commitment to industrial growth, citing the long-awaited One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme that fulfills a 32-year-old demand from industrialists. He also underscored the importance of corruption-free governance, stating that the AAP government was cleaning up the mess created by previous regimes.
One Time Settlement (OTS) Scheme: A Major Step for Punjab’s Industry
Kejriwal made it clear that the AAP government has worked tirelessly to resolve longstanding issues affecting Punjab’s industrial sector. The introduction of the One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme is a landmark achievement, enabling industrialists to settle long-pending dues with the government. According to Kejriwal, the OTS scheme will provide a significant boost to the industrial landscape by offering a resolution to debts that have burdened businesses for decades.
“Industrialists faced undue pressure from previous governments who often sought a share in the success of their businesses,” Kejriwal remarked. He assured the industry that his government was determined to offer full support and create a conducive environment for growth. The OTS, which has been a demand for over three decades, is expected to ease the financial strain on many entrepreneurs, encouraging investment and expansion.
Bold Decisions and Zero-Tolerance Policy on Corruption
Asserting that his government has taken bold decisions for the welfare of the common people, Kejriwal emphasized the zero-tolerance approach towards corruption. The AAP government has already made significant strides by tackling corrupt practices in public service. Kejriwal announced that all public-dealing services would be moved online through Sewa Kendras in the coming months, ensuring transparency and reducing the scope for corruption.
“We are committed to creating a corruption-free Punjab. We have worked hard to clean the mess left behind by the previous governments. With our upcoming digital platforms, the entire process will be more transparent,” Kejriwal said. He also noted that the land registry system would be revamped to eliminate bribery and inefficiencies.
Infrastructure Overhaul and Industrial Policy Reforms
Kejriwal’s focus on improving Punjab’s infrastructure was evident as he announced plans for the revamping of focal points and industrial zones across the state. The AAP government is committed to ensuring that all applications for new industrial projects are cleared within 45 days, aiming to provide a more efficient and business-friendly environment.
Additionally, Kejriwal spoke of revising the Industrial Policy of 2022, which had already provided a much-needed boost to the state’s industries. The new policy, which will be based on feedback from industrialists, will incorporate best practices from other states to foster further growth.
“We are not just implementing policies; we are actively involving industrialists in policy formulation. Their suggestions will play a vital role in shaping the future of Punjab’s economy,” Kejriwal said.
Tackling the Drug Menace and Ensuring Public Safety
Addressing one of Punjab’s most pressing concerns, Kejriwal outlined a comprehensive strategy to combat the drug trade. The state has been grappling with a severe drug addiction crisis, which has led to increased crime and youth exploitation. Kejriwal expressed concern over the cross-border drug smuggling via Pakistan, noting that 70% of drugs are smuggled into Punjab through drones.
To tackle this issue, the AAP government has launched a joint initiative with the BSF, using anti-drone technology to prevent the illegal import of drugs. Kejriwal also pointed out that the government was tightening the noose on hawala racketeers who launder drug money.
In addition to cracking down on the drug trade, the AAP government is focused on rehabilitating youth by offering positive outlets such as playgrounds and gyms in every village. This initiative is designed to redirect young people’s energy into productive activities, reducing their vulnerability to drug addiction and crime.
Promoting Safety and Public Welfare
Kejriwal’s announcement of enhanced police response times—with a target of reducing the response time to just 8 minutes from the current 30 minutes—demonstrates his commitment to public safety. He also urged industrialists to report any extortion attempts by gangsters immediately to the police, assuring them of full security and support.
“Together, we will fight against crime, corruption, and the drug menace. We need the full cooperation of our industry leaders to make Punjab a safer place for everyone,” Kejriwal said.
Punjab’s Bright Future Under AAP: A Roadmap for 2025
Looking ahead, Kejriwal pledged that the AAP government would continue to focus on holistic development, with a particular emphasis on improving infrastructure, road networks, sewage facilities, and water supply in cities and villages across Punjab. He also announced plans to overhaul the state’s roads over the next 18 months, ensuring smoother travel and better connectivity.
“We are determined to transform Punjab into a model of progress, focusing on both economic and social development,” Kejriwal stated.
