Chandigarh/Kapurthala, March 17 — Punjab Cabinet Minister Aman Arora issued a stern warning to drug traffickers operating in the state, making it clear: “Either quit the drug trade or leave Punjab.” The statement comes as part of the Punjab Government’s comprehensive strategy to eradicate the growing drug menace, which continues to plague the state despite numerous efforts over the years.
Addressing the media after reviewing the progress of the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign, Arora reaffirmed that under the leadership of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Supremo Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the state government had adopted a zero-tolerance policy toward the drug trade. This initiative is designed to eradicate the influence of drug trafficking networks, restore peace, and promote a healthier future for the youth of Punjab.
War Against Drugs: Enforcement, Prevention, and Rehabilitation
The state’s fight against the drug trade is organized under a three-pronged strategy: enforcement, prevention, and rehabilitation. Arora emphasized that tackling the drug issue requires comprehensive efforts targeting both supply and demand.
“The positive results from this initiative are visible,” Arora said. “Since March 1, Punjab Police have registered 1,651 cases, arrested 2,575 drug traffickers, seized 1,322 kilograms of narcotics, and recovered 64.26 lakh rupees tied to the drug trade.” These numbers underscore the scale of the operation and the government’s commitment to cracking down on illegal narcotics distribution.
A significant part of the operation also involves dismantling the illegal infrastructure built by drug traffickers using drug money. Arora made it clear that “illegal houses built by drug traffickers with drug money will be demolished,” particularly those with political backing from previous administrations.
As a border state, Punjab has been grappling with narco-terrorism, and Arora underscored the importance of maintaining peace and communal harmony. The government is committed to taking exemplary action against anyone attempting to disrupt this delicate balance.
Strengthening Rehabilitation Efforts for Drug Victims
