Amritsar CI unit arrests four operatives, seizes 4 kg heroin, ₹3.90 lakh, and a pistol in a major drug bust, says DGP Gaurav Yadav.

Amritsar Counter Intelligence (CI) unit has dismantled a significant drug distribution network, apprehending four operatives, and seizing 4 kilograms of heroin, ₹3.90 lakh in illicit earnings, as well as a .32 bore pistol, a magazine, and five live cartridges. Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav conveyed this information on Sunday.

The apprehended individuals have been identified as Yuvraj Singh, a resident of Roriwal in Amritsar; Varinder Singh, a resident of Dhaul Kalan in Amritsar; Jagroop Singh, a resident of Sangna in Amritsar; and Jugraj Singh, a resident of Sarkaria Enclave in Amritsar. Police have also seized a black Hero Splendor motorcycle (PB-02-EE-0627) and a white Honda Activa scooter (PB-02-EX-2265), both of which were utilized for the transportation of narcotic consignments.

DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that CI Amritsar received credible intelligence indicating that Yuvraj Singh and Varinder Singh, associates of the foreign-based handler Lakhwinder Singh alias Baba Lakha, had obtained a heroin shipment from the Ajnala sector and were intending to deliver it to Jagroop Singh near Gurudwara Morcha Sahib in Amritsar.

Promptly, law enforcement officers established a snare and apprehended the three suspects on the scene, seizing the illicit drug shipment and the firearm in their possession. During interrogation, Jagroop Singh disclosed that he was acting under the instructions of Daya Singh, also known as Preet Sekhon, who is presently confined in Central Jail, Sri Muktsar Sahib, and had directed him to receive the opium shipment near Gurudwara Morcha Sahib.

Further interrogation of Yuvraj Singh and Varinder Singh resulted in the identity of an additional associate, Jugraj Singh, who was subsequently detained in Amritsar city. An amount of ₹3.90 lakh in illicit funds was recovered from his possession.

In this regard, FIR No. 73 dated 13.12.25 has been registered at Police Station SSOC Amritsar under Sections 21, 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act, as well as Section 25 of the Arms Act. Further inquiry into the matter is currently underway.
