In a major breakthrough in Punjab’s ongoing crackdown on terrorism and cross-border threats, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of the Punjab Police has successfully foiled a large-scale terror plot allegedly backed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and orchestrated by Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operative Harwinder Singh Rinda.
The operation led to the seizure of a high-grade terrorist hardware cache hidden in a forested area in Gurdaspur district, which included:
-
Two AK-47 rifles
-
16 live cartridges and two magazines
-
Two P-86 hand grenades
Plot Aimed at Destabilizing Punjab: DGP
Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, addressing media on Wednesday, confirmed that initial investigations revealed the consignment was smuggled into India by Pakistani agencies and Rinda as part of a pre-planned attempt to carry out multiple terror attacks across the state.
“This was a clear attempt to disrupt peace in Punjab. The recovery was made possible due to prompt human intelligence and swift action by AGTF teams,” said DGP Yadav.
AGTF Operation Thwarts Delivery to Local Operatives
Under the direct supervision of ADGP AGTF Promod Ban, the AGTF traced and intercepted the arms consignment before it could reach the local operatives assigned to execute the attack. Authorities are now working to identify and apprehend the operatives who were to retrieve the weapons.
Foreign Links Under Investigation
DIG AGTF Gurmeet Chauhan added that the ongoing probe has exposed the involvement of foreign-based terrorists in the module. “More recoveries of arms and ammunition are expected in the coming days as investigations unfold,” he noted.
Legal Action Initiated
A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under relevant sections of the Arms Act and the Explosives Act at the Purana Shala Police Station in Gurdaspur.
CM Mann’s Security Agenda in Motion
This operation comes as part of the Punjab government’s broader agenda to make Punjab a safe and secure state, a key priority for Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. The AGTF, set up to curb organized crime and terrorism, continues to play a vital role in dismantling such terror modules.
