Man smashes wife head with hammer after she refuses return to Bihar
A 55-year-old man allegedly killed his wife on early morning of Thursday by hammering her head with a hammer after she refused to accompany him to Bihar, from where they hailed. This occurred in Bank Colony, Deoli, South Delhi. The accused, Pramod Jha alias Pappu, has been absconding since.
Kiran, 50, was found dead by her daughter-in-law Komal Jha when she woke up around 3 am and her attention was drawn to the open door and blood splattered across the room. She told the police that her mother-in-law’s head was “completely smashed,” with flesh coming out, after which she alerted the neighbors and called the police.
As per the family, Kiran and Pramod had long been estranged. Pramod lived in the Munger district of Bihar, whereas Kiran stayed in Delhi with her son Durgesh and daughter-in-law. Relatives mentioned, however, that Pramod came back to Delhi nearly ten years after he left to claim that he had some work and had purchased the hammer a day before the murder and concealed it inside the house.
By looking carefully at the CCTV footage from the area, police say that the accused is seen leaving the residence at around 12:47 AM on Thursday. Investigators believed that the murder was planned well in advance and executed just after midnight during the time when the victim was alone. Kiran’s son posted at Darbhanga was not home during the detention.
Relatives and neighbours told police that Pramod had arrived in Delhi disguised as a sadhu (monk), possibly to avoid suspicion and conceal his identity. Investigators believe he used this disguise to approach Kiran without alarming her, as the couple had been separated for nearly a decade.
The body has been sent for Post-Mortem and a murder case has been registered. Several police teams have been formed to keep a watch for bus stations, railway stations, and possible hideouts to search for the accused. The investigation is in progress while officers pledge to bring him to justice at the earliest.
