Navratri in Madhya Pradesh sparks political tension as BJP, Hindu groups demand ban on non-Hindus at Garba pandals, pushing for ID checks, kalawa, and tilak.

Bhopal: Hindu organizations and officials of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have resisted the admission of non-Hindus into Garba pandals prior to Navratri, sparking a new issue in Madhya Pradesh. In order to keep non-Hindus from attending, Hindu organizations have instructed Garba organizers to erect a picture of Lord Vishnu’s Varaha avatar at the entrance and provide admittance only after worshiping the deity. The topic of “Garba Jihad” has been brought up by Hindu organizations and BJP officials amid the growing discussions about “love jihad, land jihad, and dharm jihad” in Madhya Pradesh. They have maintained that non-Hindus should never be permitted into Garba pandals. “A picture of Lord Vishnu’s Varaha avatar should be placed at the entrance by every Garba organizer,” stated Chandrashekhar Tiwari, head of the Bhopal Hindu Utsav Samiti. Before entering, everyone must apply tilak and bow at the feet of the deity. None of the non-Hindus will do so.

BJP politicians’ statements :

Alok Sharma, a BJP MP, supported the demand and issued a warning that anyone trying to abuse the event would suffer the repercussions. “Those who wear saffron scarves, kalawa, and tilaks at Navratri will not be exempt from punishment. Hindus will celebrate their festival, and you will celebrate yours. “Anyone who makes the error of practicing love jihad will see their homes destroyed and themselves rotting in prison,” he added. Rameshwar Sharma, a BJP MLA, too took a harsh stance, declaring that non-Hindus should not be permitted in Garba. They must accept Devi’s blessings, convert to Hinduism, and bring their mother, aunt, or uncle if they want to attend.

The problem has spread beyond organizations and lawmakers. The limitations were also approved by State Minister Vishwas Kailash Sarang. “Non-Hindus will not be permitted to enter Garba,” he stated. In Sanatan tradition, Maa Durga is adored throughout this holy event. The only people who should be permitted to take part are Hindus.

The Bhopal organizing committees have started to enforce more stringent Garba admission requirements. Sunil Yadav, the president of the Bhojpal Committee, declared that only people dressed in a tilak and kalawa would be allowed entry. He went on to say that before allowing access, identifying documents, like as Aadhaar cards, will be examined to confirm faith.
