Sex ratio in Haryana rises to 912 amid STF efforts. Authorities directed to stop illegal abortions, strengthen monitoring, and promote girl child registration.
Dr. Virender Yadav, Director, Health Services, Haryana, chaired the weekly meeting of the State Task Force (STF) for Improving Sex Ratio in Haryana, which was directed by Health and Family Welfare Minister Arti Singh Rao. The meeting’s main objectives were to further up the “Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao” campaign’s efforts to reduce unlawful abortions and further enhance the state’s sex ratio.
The state recorded a sex ratio of 912 from January 1 to November 10, 2025, up from 904 during the same period last year, thanks to the persistent efforts of the Health and Women and Child Development Departments, the meeting was informed.

Dr. Virender Yadav stressed the importance of strict enforcement against illegal abortions during the conference, directing officials to take harsh action, such as canceling the licenses of physicians discovered to be complicit. It was reported that Charkhi Dadri, the SMO of CHC Gopi, had been charged with having a bad sex ratio. Show-cause notices have also been sent in this regard to the CMOs of Palwal, Charkhi Dadri, Sirsa, and Sonipat, as well as the SMO incharges of Naraingarh, Mullana, and Chaurmastpur.
In districts where the sex ratio is trending downward, Dr. Yadav directed officials to organize special initiatives to register all unregistered female children under the age of one. In order to guarantee accuracy and accountability, he further ordered that the data from the CRS site be matched with the actual delivery records.
Additionally, he directed all district authorities to file new appeals as necessary and to step up efforts to increase the conviction rate in ongoing cases involving unlawful abortion.

The meeting highlighted district-by-district performance, noting that Sirsa, Sonipat, Charkhi Dadri, and Fatehabad have all seen declines while Gurugram, Panchkula, Panipat, and Rewari have all seen notable improvements. To enhance their respective sex ratios, these districts were given explicit instructions to increase surveillance, stop illegal abortions, and conduct coordinated inspections of ultrasound centers.
In order to guarantee that every girl child is counted and cared for, Dr. Yadav also urged officials to strengthen community awareness initiatives, engage anganwadi and ASHA workers, and encourage institutional deliveries and early child registration.
