Missing Faridabad Woman Found Murdered, Buried in Soak-Pit Outside Marital Home

In a chilling revelation, the body of Tannu Rajput, a 25-year-old woman reported missing two months ago from Faridabad, was discovered buried in a soak-pit outside her marital residence in Roshan Nagar, Palla, police confirmed on Friday. Authorities believe her in-laws murdered her and then covered up the crime by alleging she had eloped.

Tannu, who married Arun Singh (28) in 2023, had been the subject of a missing person’s investigation since April 25, after her husband filed a complaint claiming she was mentally unwell and had vanished. However, the investigation revealed a gruesome conspiracy involving her husband and his family.

Police Discover Body After Interrogation of Father-in-Law

On Friday morning, a CBI-led team of Faridabad police interrogated Bhoop Singh (50), the victim’s father-in-law, who allegedly confessed to murdering Tannu and burying her body 8–10 feet deep in a pit originally dug for a sewer connection.

“We used a JCB excavator to dig the pit in front of the family’s three-storey home,” said Inspector Satya Parkash, Station House Officer of Palla police station. “Her decomposed body was identified by her parents based on the clothing found with the remains.”

Cover-Up Involved Faked Claims of Elopement

Initially, Arun Singh claimed his wife, who he said was “intellectually challenged,” had run away. But Tannu’s family from Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, immediately rejected the claim and expressed suspicion about the husband’s intentions.

According to the police, the in-laws told neighbors that she had eloped and maintained the story for weeks while resisting police efforts to investigate the household further. The pit, according to officials, was dug in April for drainage purposes, later filled with sand, and then used to conceal the body under the cover of night.

Investigation and Motive: Dowry or Infidelity?

Authorities are currently pursuing dowry demands or extramarital affair suspicions as potential motives behind the murder. Tannu’s family has denied any claim of mental instability and has instead accused her in-laws of harassment for dowry, which escalated into murder.

“The exact motive is under investigation,” said Inspector Parkash. “But we have strong reason to believe the killing was either due to dowry pressure or domestic conflict.”

Legal Action Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita

The missing person’s case has now been converted into a murder investigation. Police have booked Arun Singh and several members of the Singh family under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS):

  • Section 103(1): Murder
  • Section 3(5): Common intention
  • Section 61: Criminal conspiracy

Several suspects, including Arun Singh, are currently absconding, while Bhoop Singh remains in custody. The family’s home, which also serves as a tailoring shop, has been sealed for forensic examination.

Autopsy and Next Steps

An autopsy was conducted at Badshah Khan Civil Hospital, and results are expected next week. The findings are likely to play a crucial role in confirming the cause and timeline of death, aiding the police’s case.

Officials also stated that additional arrests are likely in the coming days as the net around the fugitive suspects tightens.

Family’s Unrelenting Pursuit of Justice

Tannu’s family traveled from Firozabad to Faridabad earlier this week, insisting that the truth would emerge if the father-in-law or husband was properly interrogated. Their persistence is being credited with pushing investigators to dig deeper—literally and figuratively.

“This is a tragic case of a young woman whose voice was silenced within her own home,” said a senior police officer. “Her family’s determination ensured the truth was unearthed.”
