Haryana Govt mandates fire safety audits for nightclubs, bars, and dance venues within seven days to prevent fire-related incidents.
The Haryana Government has mandated immediate fire safety inspections of nightclubs, bars, taverns, and other entertainment venues with dance floors throughout the state, in response to concerns regarding fire safety deficiencies in these establishments. The directives have been issued by the Financial Commissioner, Revenue and Disaster Management, Dr. Sumita Misra, with the aim of preventing fire-related incidents and safeguarding public safety.
Recognizing the lessons learned from the Goa incident, Dr. Misra emphasized the importance of increased vigilance and rigorous enforcement of safety regulations in Haryana. All Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to promptly conduct thorough fire safety assessments of nightclubs, bars, taverns, and comparable venues that accommodate large public gatherings. The audits shall be conducted rigorously in accordance with the provisions of the National Building Code, 2016, and the Haryana Fire and Emergency Services Act, 2022. Officials have been granted a seven-day deadline to finalize the audits and submit their reports.

The inspections will concentrate on confirming the accessibility and effective operation of emergency exit doors, the sufficiency of fire-fighting measures, the validity of licenses and permits, and overall compliance with established fire and life safety standards. Dr. Misra has emphasized that any violations or deficiencies identified during these audits must be rectified promptly and will be subject to stringent legal action.
Deputy Commissioners have been directed to submit comprehensive audit reports, including details of actions taken or proposed, within a period of seven days. The exercise, as stated by the Financial Commissioner, is intended to enhance the state’s fire safety preparedness and to ensure that public venues in Haryana are not susceptible to preventable and catastrophic incidents.
