Chief Minister Nayab Saini has directed officials to strengthen rural water conservation efforts while chairing a review meeting of the Haryana Pond and Waste Water Management Authority. The discussions primarily focused on improving infrastructure and long-term sustainability under the broader vision of Haryana pond and wastewater management.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized that ponds across villages must not only be beautified but also maintained in an environmentally sustainable manner. He stressed that dirty water should not be allowed to accumulate in ponds, as part of the larger Haryana pond and wastewater management strategy being implemented across the state.

Three-Pond System to Strengthen Haryana Pond and Wastewater Management and Improve Rural Sanitation Standards

A key suggestion by the Chief Minister was the development of a three-pond system, ensuring that untreated village wastewater is not directly discharged into natural ponds. This model, he noted, would play a crucial role in strengthening Haryana pond and wastewater management practices and improving rural sanitation standards.

Further, the Chief Minister instructed that the responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of ponds should be transferred to the respective Gram Panchayats. This decentralised approach is expected to enhance accountability and improve the efficiency of Haryana pond and wastewater management at the local level.

In addition, to promote economic use of large water bodies, CM Saini directed officials to introduce an online auction portal for leasing ponds for fish farming. This initiative aims to encourage sustainable aquaculture while supporting rural livelihoods, aligning with the state’s overall Haryana pond and wastewater management framework.

The government stated that these measures will collectively help restore ecological balance, improve sanitation, and create new income opportunities for rural communities across Haryana.
