Sagbara School Inauguration Controversy: AAP MLA Vasava Claims Deliberate Exclusion by District Officials

by Desk

AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava accuses Gujarat district administration of neglect after being excluded from Sagbara Eklavya School inauguration event.

Ahmedabad :  A controversy erupted during the inauguration of the Eklavya Model Residential School in Sagbara, Narmada district, after AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava alleged that he was deliberately excluded from the official invitation list despite the event being held in his विधानसभा constituency.

Speaking at the inauguration programme, Vasava said the school complex—equipped with 16 classrooms, laboratories, a library, and facilities to accommodate 240 students—was a significant step for tribal education. He praised the Gujarat government for completing the long-pending campus, stating that it would help tribal youth build strong careers through quality education.

“This Is Not My Insult, It Is an Insult to the Public”

Vasava, however, expressed strong displeasure over what he called “administrative neglect.” He said that despite the presence of ministers, MPs, the district collector, and senior officials, he was neither formally invited nor informed about the programme.

“This is not my insult, it is an insult to the people who elected me. I am not someone who attends events only for nameplates or plaques,” Vasava said, adding that he attended the programme only after a local sarpanch informed him about it.

Direct Questions to District Administration

The AAP MLA questioned the district collector and officials over repeated instances of being excluded from official programmes in his constituency. He said that both elected representatives and government officials are paid from public funds and must respect democratic protocol.

“From the collector to the talati, everyone is a public servant. We are people’s representatives with constitutional authority. Then why was the elected MLA not invited?” he asked.

He also pointed out that the building was constructed using government funds, not money belonging to any political party.

Video Statement Welcoming the School, Criticising the Process

In a video statement released later, Vasava clarified that the Eklavya Model Residential School had been functioning in Sagbara since 2013 and that the construction of the permanent campus was pending for years. The building has now been completed with support from the Tribal Development Department, the Government of India, and the Gujarat government.

He welcomed the inauguration attended by Tribal Affairs Minister Naresh Patel, MP Mansukhbhai Vasava, and senior officials, and said he was happy to see tribal students perform cultural programmes at the event.

“My wish is that children from the tribal community receive quality education here and build a bright future,” Vasava said.

Allegations of Repeated Neglect, Demand for Accountability

Despite welcoming the project, Vasava reiterated that the district administration failed to follow protocol by not even making a phone call or sending an invitation to the area’s MLA.

He alleged that such actions were repeatedly used to provoke him and suppress his voice. “I do not care if my name is missing from a plaque or invitation card. I live in people’s hearts,” he said.

Vasava stated that constitutional norms must be respected and added that he had already shared suggestions regarding protocol compliance, which were acknowledged by a state minister during the event.

He concluded by saying that the responsibility for the lapse lies with the district administration and warned that any attack on public dignity would not be tolerated.
