Ahmedabad/Gujarat Karan Barot, AAP Youth Leader and State Spokesperson, spearheaded a protest at the Municipal Corporation office in Ahmedabad’s Odhav area, highlighting the issue of drinking water contaminated with sewage. The demonstration also included AAP leader Jaimin Desai, local residents, and party workers.

Participants reached the Corporation office with drums and banners, demanding immediate action. Initially, they were stopped at the gate and not allowed to enter. Addressing the crowd, Dr. Karan Barot criticized the BJP government at the municipal, state, and central levels, saying, “Despite a triple-engine BJP government, residents of Ahmedabad are forced to drink sewage-contaminated water. When people only want to voice their concerns, the Corporation stops them. Are we Pakistani citizens? We are Gujaratis and have the right to be heard.”

After a prolonged struggle, the protesters, led by Dr. Karan Barot and Jaimin Desai, were allowed to submit a memorandum to the municipal officials. Dr. Barot highlighted that residents of Odhav societies have been forced to drink polluted water for six months to a year. He urged officials to experience the same water to understand the severity of the issue.

The AAP leader criticized the Corporation’s promise to send a water tanker “tomorrow,” questioning why residents should continue consuming contaminated water until then. “Several complaints have been submitted, yet the Corporation has not addressed them. Residents deserve clean drinking water, just like the bottled Bisleri water provided to officials,” he said.

Dr. Karan Barot also emphasized the irony of residents having supported BJP leaders in elections, while continuing to face basic civic issues such as unsafe drinking water. The protesters demanded immediate provision of clean water to Odhav’s residents and urged the authorities to take urgent corrective measures.
