Ahmedabad, Gujarat – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced that it will contest all 12,000 seats in the upcoming AAP Gujarat local elections, covering municipal, taluka, district, and metropolitan bodies. The announcement was made by AAP Gujarat State President Isudan Gadhvi during a press conference attended by senior leaders, including MLAs Gopal Italia, Chaitar Vasava, State Organization General Secretary Manoj Sorathia, Rakesh Hirpara, National Joint Secretary Rajubhai Solanki, and other prominent party members.
Speaking at the press conference, Gadhvi stated that the state has been divided into seven zones, each with a dedicated election committee comprising zone presidents, central zone presidents, observers, and constituency in-charges. The committees are currently discussing candidates based on a three-tier grading system—A-grade, B-grade, and C-grade—following interviews conducted from March 10 to 15 across 26 Lok Sabha constituencies.

Candidate Selection and Screening Process
According to Gadhvi, the AAP Gujarat local elections will follow a unique “open-to-all” approach, allowing ordinary citizens to contest instead of limiting tickets to the children or relatives of MLAs and political leaders, as traditionally seen with the BJP and Congress. “For the first time, AAP is empowering grassroots leaders and community volunteers to stand for local elections,” he said.
The candidate screening process will continue over the next three days, from March 16 to 18, after which the first list of selected candidates will be announced. Gadhvi emphasized that the party is committed to promoting merit and inclusivity, giving leadership opportunities to socially active and politically motivated individuals from across Gujarat.

Focus on Umreth Assembly By-Election
Gadhvi also addressed the recent vacancy in the Umreth Assembly constituency following the passing of the sitting MLA. He stated that the AAP Gujarat local elections strategy will include careful deliberation with both state and national leadership before announcing a candidate for the Umreth by-election. The party will ensure that all decisions are transparent and aligned with its principles of promoting ordinary citizens over dynastic politics.
Strengthening AAP’s Presence in Gujarat
“This is a historic moment for AAP in Gujarat,” Gadhvi said. “For the first time, the party is contesting municipal, taluka, district, and metropolitan elections with full strength, contesting all 12,000 seats. The enthusiasm among volunteers and new members has been tremendous, and our candidate selection process ensures that the people’s voice is represented.”
Senior leaders present at the press conference reiterated the party’s commitment to grassroots democracy and emphasized that the AAP Gujarat local elections will serve as a platform to challenge traditional political dynasties and empower ordinary citizens.
