AAP Exposes Drinking Water Crisis in Odhav: Residents Face Health Risks from Sewage

AAP Leaders Visit Mukesh Nagar Society, Demand Immediate Action on Sewage in Drinking Water

by Tamanna

AAP Gujarat: A serious public health concern has emerged in Ahmedabad after residents of Mukesh Nagar Society in Odhav reported sewage contaminating their drinking water. In response, senior leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), including state spokesperson Dr. Karan Barot, along with Jaimin Desai, Ishwar Desai, and Nishant Thakkar, visited the area early Monday morning at 6 a.m. to inspect the situation firsthand.

Dr. Karan Barot stated that local investigations by AAP revealed repeated complaints from residents about sewage mixing with drinking water, posing a severe health risk to the entire neighborhood. He highlighted that this area falls under the jurisdiction of BJP state president Jagdishbhai, raising serious questions about the quality of water supply across Gujarat.

“Is the government waiting for diseases to spread before taking action?” Dr. Barot asked, referencing a recent typhoid outbreak in Gandhinagar that hospitalised over 200 children and claimed the life of a seven-year-old girl, Kajalben, due to contaminated water. At that time, only superficial “health surveys” were conducted, failing to address pipeline leakages and corruption that contributed to the crisis.

Dr. Barot warned that Odhav is now facing a similar situation, with every household affected by illness. Over the past decade, more than 900 deaths in Gujarat, especially Ahmedabad, have been linked to waterborne and mosquito-borne diseases such as typhoid, cholera, and dengue, primarily caused by contaminated water.

He urged the government to implement a permanent solution rather than temporary fixes. Key demands include:

  • Immediate inspection and repair of pipeline leakages.

  • Door-to-door health surveys to assess the actual impact on residents.

  • Provision of safe drinking water until a long-term solution is in place.

  • Strict action against responsible officials with a clear public action plan.

AAP Threatens Public Protest if Sewage Water Issue in Ahmedabad Isn’t Resolved

Dr. Barot warned that if the government fails to resolve the issue within one to two days, AAP will mobilize a strong public protest, forcing authorities and elected representatives to consume the same contaminated water, holding the government fully accountable.

“Residents of this area pay crores in taxes and vote responsibly. Denying them safe drinking water is unacceptable. This government should be ashamed,” he added.
