Narmada (Gujarat): A delegation from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Gujarat visited a remote village in Narmada district, highlighting what they described as severe gaps in basic infrastructure and development despite long-standing claims of the “Gujarat Model” of governance.
The visit was shared on social media by AAP Gujarat leader Chaitra Vasava, along with newly elected district and taluka representatives, including Ghemsingbhai Vasava and Jaideepbhai. The team visited Tumdavadi village in the Chikda taluka of Narmada district, where they interacted with local residents and documented their living conditions.
Alleged Lack of Basic Amenities and Dependence on River Water in the Village
According to the delegation, the village, which reportedly has around 130 households and a population of nearly 600, continues to struggle with basic amenities even decades after independence. Residents allegedly rely on river water for drinking due to the absence of a piped water supply system.
The AAP team also claimed that the village lacks road connectivity, making it difficult for emergency services such as 108 ambulance support to reach the area. They further stated that there are no local schools for approximately 70–80 school-age children, and no anganwadi centre for young children.

The delegation added that the village also lacks electricity and that many residents do not possess essential identity and welfare documents such as Aadhaar, ration cards, or voter IDs.

Criticising the situation, the AAP leaders said that while the “Gujarat Model” is often showcased nationally, tribal and remote regions of the state continue to face deprivation in basic facilities such as water, electricity, roads, and education.
They also indirectly referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that development claims should be evaluated against ground realities in such underserved villages.
The visit has sparked fresh political debate over rural development in Gujarat, especially in tribal-dominated regions, with opposition leaders continuing to question the effectiveness of welfare delivery in remote areas.
