MCD Ward Committee Election Delay: Ankush Narang Accuses BJP of Avoiding Polls

AAP accuses BJP of repeatedly postponing MCD ward committee elections amid internal conflict allegations.

The political tension in Delhi escalated after the MCD ward committee election delay once again came under sharp criticism from the Aam Aadmi Party. Leader of Opposition in MCD, Ankush Narang, strongly attacked the BJP, alleging that the ruling party is repeatedly postponing elections due to internal conflicts and fear of losing control.

The MCD ward committee election delay has now occurred for the third time, triggering accusations from AAP that the BJP is running away from the democratic process. Narang claimed that issues such as internal factionalism, alleged bargaining for chairmanship posts, and dissatisfaction among councillors are the main reasons behind the postponement.

AAP Questions Legal Procedure Behind Delay

Raising concerns over the process, Ankush Narang questioned how the election dates were postponed without following proper legal procedure under the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act. The MCD ward committee election delay has sparked debate over whether the decision was taken with proper approval, as required under Section 53(2).

He further alleged that the decision reflects internal disorder within the BJP’s municipal setup and raises questions about transparency in administrative functioning.

Allegations of Internal Conflict in BJP

According to Narang, the MCD ward committee election delay is linked to intense internal competition within the BJP, including alleged disputes over zonal chairmanship positions. He claimed that several councillors are unhappy, and there is fear within the party of losing key zones to opposition candidates.

He also said that repeated postponements are weakening the democratic structure of the municipal body and affecting governance.

Impact on Governance and Development

Highlighting administrative concerns, Narang said that ward committee elections are crucial for smooth functioning of civic bodies. The continued MCD ward committee election delay is reportedly affecting development work across wards as new committees have not been formed.

He added that despite months passing, no fresh election schedule has been announced, causing uncertainty in local governance.

The ongoing MCD ward committee election delay has intensified political confrontation between AAP and BJP in Delhi, with accusations of procedural lapses, internal conflict, and governance disruption dominating the debate.
