Khalistani Terrorist Linked to Punjab Police Attack Held in Delhi

Khalistani Terrorist Arrested in Delhi for Punjab Police Station Attack

In a major counter-terror breakthrough, the Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested a Khalistani terrorist associated with the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) group. The arrested individual, Karanvir, is a key suspect in the April 7 grenade attack on Qila Lal Singh Police Station in Batala, Punjab.

This development marks a critical step in curbing separatist-linked terror activities that have recently escalated in northern India.

Linked to Babbar Khalsa and Punjab Police Attack

According to officials, Karanvir was actively working for Babbar Khalsa International, a banned Khalistani terror outfit with known support from elements in Pakistan. The group has long been accused of pushing separatist propaganda and orchestrating violence in India, especially Punjab.

The April 7 attack involved the hurling of a grenade at the Qila Lal Singh Police Station in Batala. While there were no major casualties, the incident raised alarms due to its symbolic targeting of law enforcement infrastructure in a sensitive border state.

Delhi Police stated that Karanvir had been under surveillance since his name surfaced in connection with the Batala incident. The authorities confirmed that he was picked up from the national capital in a targeted intelligence-driven operation.

Associate Also Held Earlier in Delhi

Just days before Karanvir’s arrest, his associate Akashdeep, also connected with Babbar Khalsa International, was nabbed by the same Special Cell team. Akashdeep was reportedly caught while supplying illegal arms in Delhi, indicating a broader network at play.

Police sources believe both men were working on directives from handlers abroad. Their objective was to smuggle weapons into Punjab and Delhi, possibly for more targeted attacks or to incite unrest.

The Delhi Police Special Cell has been instrumental in tracking down such modules in the past. This latest arrest further proves the capital’s vulnerability to cross-border terror operatives and the importance of continued vigilance.

Babbar Khalsa’s Growing Influence and Police Action

The resurgence of Khalistani terror outfits like Babbar Khalsa International has been a serious concern for Indian intelligence agencies. While the movement is largely dormant in Punjab compared to the 1980s and 90s, support from the Khalistani diaspora, especially in Canada, the UK, and parts of Europe, has reportedly revived certain factions.

Moreover, agencies suggest that Pakistan-based groups, including the ISI, have been actively backing these groups through funding, logistics, and ideological support.

However, with recent high-profile arrests, Indian law enforcement appears to be acting swiftly. Coordination between Punjab Police and Delhi Police, along with central agencies, is playing a vital role in neutralizing these threats.

Security Measures Intensified

Following the arrests, authorities have intensified checks across Punjab and Delhi. Intelligence networks have been placed on high alert. Investigations are also underway to uncover the extent of Karanvir’s network and determine if any other accomplices are operating in the region.

Furthermore, officials are examining whether the Batala attack was a standalone incident or part of a larger plan aimed at disrupting peace and security ahead of key national events.
