Delhi CM Rekha Gupta confirms successful cloud seeding trials; artificial rain expected Oct 29 to improve air quality and fight pollution.
Rekha Gupta, the chief minister of Delhi, declared on Thursday that the plans to use cloud seeding to create artificial rain in the nation’s capital had been successfully finished. Experts attest to the success of the experiment, which was carried out in the Burari region. According to the weather service, clouds may be present on October 28, 29, and 30. If the weather holds out, Delhi may get its first artificial rainfall on October 29.

Details of the trial operation were given by Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirs, who said that a proving trip was flown from IIT Kanpur to the Delhi region via Meerut, Khekra, Burari, Sadakpur, Bhojpur, Aligarh, and returned. During the flight, pyrotechnics were used to fire cloud seeding flares over the Khekra, Burari, and Badli regions.
“Today, a trial seeding flight was done… This proving flight assessed the capabilities for cloud seeding, the readiness and endurance of the aircraft, the effectiveness of the cloud seeding fitments and flares, and coordination among all involved agencies,” Sirs said in a post on X.
I would like to thank Hon’ble Chief Minister Smt @gupta_rekha Ji for her leadership and Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji for his blessings because of which all permissions for this novel effort were timely available.

IIT Kanpur and the Delhi government collaborated on the cloud-seeding project, which aims to investigate artificial rainfall as a possible way to reduce particulate pollution in the city. In order to carry out five cloud-seeding trials, mostly in northwest Delhi, the Delhi government and IIT Kanpur signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in September. IIT Kanpur has obtained the required funds and will supply its own aircraft for the operations. The planned timeframe for the cloud-seeding operations is October 1–November 30.
