Delhi Pollution: AAP Claims 92% Local Sources to Blame, Accuses BJP of Data Manipulation and Corruption

AAP says stubble burning contributes only 8% to Delhi pollution, accusing BJP-led agencies of corruption, data manipulation, and failure to enforce GRAP norms.

Delhi Pollution:  The AAP claimed that stubble burning currently only makes up a small portion of the city’s serious pollution problem and blamed the BJP-led Delhi administration for systematic failure, data manipulation, and corruption.

According to data presented by AAP Delhi state president Saurabh Bharadwaj during a press conference held here, stubble burning from Punjab is only responsible for 8% of Delhi’s pollution, with the BJP controlling city-based agencies being held accountable for the remaining 92%.

Bharadwaj highlighted a 95% decrease in stubble burning incidents in Punjab under the AAP government, citing statements from two central government agencies: the Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and the Secretary of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education.

He pointed out that there are already only 3,500 instances this year compared to over 83,000 in 2020.

“This year’s pollution situation in Delhi is unprecedented,” Bharadwaj said.

“Respiratory ailments are flooding hospitals. The government is manipulating data—turning off AQI monitoring and dousing sensors with water—instead of taking proactive measures. The AQI reaches 400 even at that point.

The Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) construction limits are being flagrantly disregarded in exchange for bribes, he added, accusing officials of rampant corruption. He charged that district and sub-divisional magistrates were converting pollution control into a “business that makes money.”

AAP spokesman Nyvaan Sharma compared the AAP government’s initiatives in Punjab with the Delhi administration’s strategy. In Punjab, he described a multifaceted approach that includes the establishment of supply lines to move stubble to businesses, equipment subsidies for farmers, and volunteer teams on the ground.

“Implementation, not manipulation, is the foundation of Punjab’s model,” Sharma stated.
