Delhi CM Rekha Gupta launches a special Yamuna cleanup drive after Chhath Puja, urging citizens to help keep Vasudev Ghat and nearby areas clean.

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta began a special cleanup effort at Vasudev Ghat on the Yamuna just hours after Chhath puja ended early on Tuesday morning, October 28 (PTI).

Alongside Kampil Mishra, Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gupta gathered solid debris, water bottles, flowers, and diyas. She swept some of the ghat as well.

It’s likely that some trash was left behind during the city’s celebration of the Chhath festival. “We will conduct a special drive to clean it up,” she said reporters.

“Everyone must join the drive to clean up the entire Vasudev Ghat premises and the waste items floating on the Yamuna surface,” she urged.

“It is necessary to perform sanitation tasks all year round, around the clock. It’s a long-term endeavor that both the government and the people must undertake,” she said.

Virendra Sachdeva, the head of the Delhi BJP, and Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh started a push for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to pick up trash from the Yamuna Ghats and artificial ponds made in parks and other places for Chhath.

This year, the Delhi government installed almost 1,500 additional ghats throughout the city and built Chhath ghats at 17 locations along the Yamuna from Palla on the Haryana border to Kalindikunj.
