Delhi AIIMS patients sleep on streets in winter. AAP urges Rekha Gupta government to provide shelters & transport.
Delhi AIIMS, one of the country’s premier medical institutions, is seeing patients from across India struggle not only with severe illnesses but also with harsh winter conditions. Many are reportedly forced to sleep on roads outside the hospital due to a lack of adequate facilities, exposing them to biting cold and rain.
AAP leaders have raised concerns over this alarming situation, highlighting that patients visiting the national capital for treatment should not have to fight the cold in addition to their illness.
A senior AAP representative stated, “Patients come to Delhi AIIMS seeking treatment, but due to the lack of proper arrangements, they are compelled to endure extreme cold while waiting outside. This is unacceptable.”
The AAP has appealed to the Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, to set up proper rain shelters for patients and their attendants. Additionally, the party emphasized the need for reliable transportation services to help patients reach the hospital without facing hardship.

Delhi’s winter can be particularly harsh for patients traveling from distant states. Experts suggest that prolonged exposure to cold conditions could worsen patients’ health and increase hospital complications.
The AAP’s appeal comes at a time when the national capital sees an influx of patients from neighboring states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, and others, seeking specialized treatment at AIIMS. With limited waiting areas and no dedicated shelters, patients often have no choice but to sit or sleep on pavements outside the hospital.
AAP’s Demands Include:
-
Immediate construction of rain and winter shelters outside Delhi AIIMS
-
Arrangement of shuttle services for patients from nearby metro stations and bus stops
-
Adequate seating and resting areas for attendants of patients
-
Regular monitoring to ensure patient safety during peak winter
Conclusion:
As the cold intensifies, AAP urges the Delhi government to take urgent steps, ensuring that patients visiting AIIMS receive both medical care and basic protection from the elements. Health should not be compromised due to lack of infrastructure.
